The F4UAE Championship will enter its fifth season in 2022,with five rounds split between Dubai Autodrome and Yas Marina Circuit. As well as being a respected Championship in its own right, F4UAE is often used as traditional ‘off-season’ preparation for other F4 Championships and will host drivers from around the world throughout January and February 2022.
This will be the first time Carlin have completed in theF4UAE Championship, despite a strong history in the Formula 4 category. Carlin claimed both Driver and Teams’ titles in the inaugural British season in 2015 (formerly named MSA Formula) with Lando Norris and won both titles again in 2016 with Max Fewtrell and 2017 with Jamie Caroline. Following a one-year sabbatical Carlin returned claiming the Drivers’ title with Zane Maloney in2019 before finishing second in the standings with Zak O’Sullivan in 2020.
The new Tatuus FIA Formula 4 cars and Abarth engine used inF4UAE will be the same car/engine combination used in F4 British Championship from 2022 onwards, giving Carlin insight into the new package.
Speaking about the Championship, Trevor Carlin said, “For the youngest drivers, track experience is everything and having the chance to experience a full race weekend format, including the pressure of qualifying and hone race craft is invaluable.
“We’ll also be racing the new FIA Formula 4 Tatuus, which along with the Abarth engine will also be the same package used in the F4British Championship so for both drivers and team, this is great way to get familiar with the F4 package going forward.”
The first F4UAE Championship race will take place from 12 -14 January at Dubai Autodrome.
