The Israeli driver made the most of the three races on offer to take third overall on Saturday’s opening race of the weekend, before going one better on Sunday and finishing second.
A trio of qualifying sessions and races were preceded by testing on Friday which saw Cohen and Zane Maloney use the time to their advantage and continue their season push. However, from the word go it was clear that track limits would be top of the agenda over the course of the weekend with lap times falling off the screen as turn nine was exceeded by nearly the entire field.
Saturday morning brought an early qualifying session which saw Cohen light up the screens before a red flag disrupted the progress with just over three minutes on the clock. Able to get out again, Cohen was unable to improve however Maloney brilliantly swept up to third position before a penalty for exceeding track limits took away his efforts and left him starting down the order. The Carlin pair had a chance to do it all over again a couple of short hours later before finally getting the chance to race later in the afternoon.
The opening race of the weekend provided exciting action for the duo who both got away off the line brilliantly before beginning to make progress. Maloney was quickly up to fourth, once again proving his pace, and Cohen in fifth until the final stages of the race when an incident for Maloney left him with heavy damage and ultimately out of the race. Cohen meanwhile was able to take full advantage of this and snatch third positions as his own.
Cohen said after his podium;
“I had a good start to the race and made it it up fifth from seventh straight away. After that, I was able to overtake Estner for position. I made sure to keep Zane in my sights during the final few laps and was able to finish in third – it was a good race overall.”
Cohen went on to continue his strong form the next day when he went even better – taking second place for himself.
The next round of the championship will get underway at the end of the month as the series moves to the Circuit de Catalunya.
