16-year-old O’Sullivan clinched his first win of the season during the opening round at Brands Hatch and hasn’t looked back since. His pace has seen him victorious on six occasions (including two at Donington earlier in the season) and grace the podium a total of 13 times. However, it has been his consistency that has been one of his most impressive feats, with only two retirements and 18 top-ten finishes to his name.
The 2020 F4 British Vice Champion has lined up from the very front of the grid a total of five times demonstrating his outright pace, while his fighting spirit during the reverse grid races has impressed many as he fought his way past his rivals to claim all important points. BRDC Rising Star O’Sullivan is already marked out as a talent to watch and has balanced the season finale at Donington with assessments as a finalist for the 2021 Aston Martin Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year Award.
O’Sullivan left the last round at Oulton Park as Champion elect having just missed out on securing the championship by virtue of the confirmation of this weekend’s entry list. With the first race of three now completed at Donington, it is impossible for the young Brit’s tally to be beaten. O’Sullivan therefore heads into the final two races of the season as the confirmed 2021 GB3 Champion.
O’Sullivan said, “It’s been an awesome year. It’s great to get a championship win for the boys and girls in blue after getting so close last year in British F4 which we missed out on by just a couple of points. The car and team have been fantastic, and I’ve really enjoyed my time in the championship. Big thanks to the whole team, my engineer Anthony, my sponsors and parents for helping us get to this point. It’s really nice we’re able to enjoy this last weekend of the season with the title sealed. It’s a nice moment for everyone I think.”
Team Principal Trevor Carlin added, “Zak has driven like a champion all season. He is incredibly composed and mature in and out of the car and as a Team Principal he’s the kind of driver you know you can rely on to get the job done. At just 16, without a doubt he has a great future ahead of him, and I’m very proud we were able to be part of his story with a championship win in the GB3 Championship. A big thank you also to the team, who have once again done a phenomenal job to maintain incredibly high standards and take another championship title.”
