Carlin to enter F1 Academy

FIA Formula 2
December 16, 2022

Following today’s announcement by Formula 1, Carlin is pleased to confirm its participation in the first three seasons of F1 Academy.

The new category is an all-women driver series which will help develop drivers for the highest levels of motorsport.

The 2023 F1 Academy season will feature seven events, with three races per weekend to provide plentiful track action for drivers.  The car used in the category will be the Tatuus T421, a chassis which Carlin already have race winning success with.  Similar to Formula3, Formula 2 and Formula 1, drivers will race on Pirelli tyres.

Addressing the financial restrictions that limit the progress of so many drivers, Formula 1 will subsidise each car with a budget of €150,000 making the category much more financially accessible than other comparative series.

Speaking about the team’s involvement, Team Principal Stephanie Carlin said,

“We’re delighted and proud to be announced as one of the five teams competing in the first three seasons of the F1 Academy, starting from 2023.  It is a fantastic initiative from Formula 1 to help redress the balance of women representation amongst racing drivers."

“Driver development has always been the cornerstone of what we do at Carlin and having been formative in the careers of over 30 F1 drivers over the last two decades we’re extremely excited to help develop talent in the F1Academy as well.  With the right opportunities, support and time, there’s absolutely no reason why it can’t be the norm to see women racing at the very pinnacle of motorsport.”

Driver announcements are due over the next few weeks.
