The Partnership Behind Alex Dunne's Qualifying Consistency

Team:
FIA Formula 2

Across the opening seven rounds of the 2026 FIA Formula 2 season, Alex Dunne has continued to deliver strong qualifying performances, securing a top-four starting position at every round so far.

Matching his season-best qualifying result of P2 at both the Red Bull Ring and Silverstone, Dunne’s consistency has been a key strength so far this season. A key part of that performance has been the continued development of the relationship between Dunne and race engineer Stuart King, with the pair working closely together to maximise performance each weekend.

Upon reflecting on the team's qualifying performances this season, Alex Dunne explained,

“For qualifying, we’ve built a really good harmony within the team. The team understands what direction we need to go with the car, while making sure it suits my driving style. We’re working well together to maximise qualifying every weekend, making sure the run plan is right and putting ourselves in the right place at the right time.”

Having worked together since Dunne’s rookie campaign, the pair have developed a strong understanding built on trust and communication, something King believes has been key to their continued progress.

Reflecting on the partnership, Stuart King said,

“We were in tune straight away. I think from very early on, we just saw eye to eye. There wasn’t much room to improve in that relationship because it worked from the beginning. We don’t waste time trying to work out what’s really happened, we go straight to the problem and work on fixing it.”

That preparation throughout the weekend ensures both the car and driver are ready to perform when it matters most, giving Dunne the confidence to deliver when the qualifying lap begins.

King added,

“Everything leading up to the lap is about getting the car in the right window. Once that lap starts, I’ve just got to sit back and watch because there’s nothing more I can do.”

As the Formula 2 season continues, Dunne’s qualifying consistency provides a strong platform for the races ahead. With the continued support of the team, the focus remains on converting strong starting positions into results on race day.
