Pulling away at the front

F1 Academy
June 24, 2024

Rodin Motorsport's Abbi Pulling has enjoyed another brilliant weekend in the F1 Academy as the third round of the season took place in Barcelona, Spain.

The Alpine backed driver secured pole position for both races of the weekend and went on to claim victory in race one on Saturday and a further podium for second on Sunday. The incredible continuation of form sees the British driver extend her lead of the championship to 66 points over he nearest competitor. American Express backed Jess Edgar and Lola Lovinfosse, partnered with Charlotte Tilbury, both took points paying positions over the course of the weekend.

Following a strong test session, qualifying took place later in the day for the field - and it was Pulling who continued her form from earlier in the day to quickly light up the timing screens. As the flag fell Pulling had taken not one, but both pole positions on offer meanwhile, both Edgar and Lovinfosse secured top ten starting positions.

Starting from pole, Pulling came under a little bit of pressure from Nerea Marti however kept her cool and began to build her advantage over the rest of the field. There was drama further back as Lovinfosse sustained contact but managed to continue onwards; and while Edgar had been enjoying good progress, she found herself penalised for a false start which subsequently dropped her down a position.

At the very front, Pulling had pulled a fantastic gap to take her fourth win of the season as well as taking the fastest lap to boot. Edgar took the flag in eighth and Lovinfosse 11th.

Sunday morning saw the Rodin Motorsport trio do it all over again with Pulling once again going from pole, however in contrast to the previous day Abbi was unable to fend off to pressure from behind as the field swept into turn one and dropped to second place behind Chloe Chambers. Unfortunately, Edgar's bad luck this weekend continued as she was handed a penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage while she avoided the melee at the first corner - this, along with her tyres hitting the cliff, dropped her down the order when applied, finishing 15th.

Lovinfosse was making moves through the field and was in the points taking ninth as the race concluded. Pulling kept her pace throughout the race and took second place to claim another podium and more great points,

The strong weekend sees Pulling extend her championship lead while Rodin Motorsport sit at the top of the team standings as a mid season break is on the cards.
