This weekend’s expanded format sees two Feature Races take place alongside the Sprint Race, with qualifying taking place on Thursday rather than the usual Friday. Qualifying 1 determines the starting grid for Friday’s Sprint Race and Feature Race 1, while Qualifying 2 sets the grid for Saturday’s Feature Race 2.
Dunne continued his impressive qualifying record this season by securing his first pole of the year in Q1, setting a 1:55.383 around the streets of Baku. Stenshorne followed just 0.033 seconds behind to complete a Rodin 1-2.
Reflecting on his first pole of the season, Alex Dunne said:
“Pole in Baku. Really, really happy. First pole of the year. I think it’s been a long time coming, so to finally put it together and get pole, I’m very, very happy.”
With just 10 minutes between the two sessions, Stenshorne then delivered an exceptional final lap in Q2, setting a 1:53.728 to take his maiden F2 pole position. Dunne followed in P2 with a 1:54.173, giving Rodin another 1-2 and locking out the front row for both Feature Races.
Speaking after securing his maiden F2 pole, Martinius Stenshorne said:
“Pole in Baku, first pole of the year. Feels really good. We’ve been close many times, so it feels nice to finally get it, and I’m looking forward to the race on Sunday.”
Commenting on the incredible qualifying sessions, Rodin Motorsport Sporting Director Benn Huntingford said:
“An incredible qualifying session from the whole team. To take both poles and lock out the front row in both sessions is a fantastic result. We’ve given ourselves a fantastic platform for the weekend, and now the focus turns to converting these starting positions into strong results across the three races.”
