Starting from an all-Rodin front row after yesterday’s 1-2 qualifying performance, Dunne and Stenshorne maintained their positions at the front through a chaotic race, featuring both a Safety Car and a red flag. Both drivers showed impressive pace throughout, making a series of strong overtakes to secure a double podium.
Dunne had already celebrated on the podium earlier in the day, making an impressive charge from P10 on the reverse-grid Sprint Race to finish P3. He then converted his Feature Race 1 pole into his first victory of the season, leading Stenshorne home in P2.
Reflecting on his first win of the season, Alex said:
“Super, super happy. It kind of feels like forever since I won a race, so I think to do it in the fashion we did today, also with a double podium, getting a podium in the Sprint and bringing home a 1-2 for the team is always the cherry on top. So yeah, a fantastic day!”
After an early pit stop left Stenshorne unlucky with the timing of a Safety Car, he delivered an impressive drive to recover to P2. He made a strong restart following both the Safety Car and red flag, before executing a series of measured overtakes to join Dunne on the podium.
Martinius said:
“Good race, a bit too many overtakes than I would like! Of course, it was a nice race, but we were a bit unlucky with the Safety Car after we boxed. Looking forward to tomorrow!”
The weekend is not over yet, with the team set to lock out the front row once again for Feature Race 2 on Saturday. This time, Stenshorne will start from pole with Dunne alongside him in P2 following yesterday’s Qualifying 2 result.
It is the second time this season that the team has secured a 1-2 finish in a Feature Race, following Stenshorne’s maiden F2 victory in Montreal, where Dunne finished P2.
Commenting on another outstanding result for the team, Sporting Director Benn Huntingford said:
“Mega day for the team. We had the pace from qualifying and both drivers delivered when it mattered. To come away with a 1-2 is exactly what we came here for."
